to Bird Illustrator
About the Illustrator - Steve Palin Steve is a Norfolk headteacher, having initially worked in Merseyside for 25 years where he studied art and design. He works semi-professionally as a published artist and first put his skills to use producing 24 sets of illustrated student worksheets for Encyclopaedia Britannica in the late 1980s. This was followed by a commission from Brooke Bond PG Tips to produce a commemorative boxed set for the 40th Anniversary of PG Tips Picture Cards in 1994. Two books followed: A Dissimulation of Birds and A Menagerie of Animals. These richly illustrated volumes about terms of assembly for birds and animals earned Steve the nickname "The Collective Nouns Man"! These books gave Steve wide publicity in the national press and he has been interviewed on radio stations around the world as a result. He then illustrated a book for the Storytellers' author, Hugh Lupton. This was an anthology of poems and stories about birds called "The Songs of Birds" published by Barefoot Books. More recently Steve has painted a set of 28 animal greetings cards for "Images and Editions" and has just published his latest illustrated book on the folk names of birds - Pickcheese, Billy Wise and Cobble. Steve also enjoys calligraphy. He portrays the natural history subjects which he loves, and although can paint equally well in acrylic or oils, prefers the medium of watercolour. Steve is always happy to take commissions for either copies or new work. For further information please go to Other Products and Services |
